Course Overview:

PERL is the scripting language most used in developing web-based applications. Students will learn the syntax and structure of PERL and how to read from and write to files. Students will learn to create functions and classes in PERL. Students will learn to read and write to a database and how to generate output. Students will learn to collect data users submit on a web-based form and to use it to generate custom web pages. Students will need access to a web-server that uses PERL.

ATTENTION: This course has a strict start and end date.  When a student enrolls into this course, they will need to work with one of our Training Assessment Managers (TAMs) to choose a start date before they can be enrolled in their course.

Course Outline:

  • Students will install PERL and create some simple scripts.
  • Students will write PERL scripts to create output and work with variables.
  • Students will write PERL code which uses mathematical operators, conditional statements and loops.
  • Students will write PERL statements which use Regular Expressions to match or replace characters in a block of text.
  • Students will write PERL statements which read and write data in files.
  • Students will write PERL code which contains subroutines and functions.
  • Students will write PERL scripts which will handle web page content and url and form variables.
  • Students will write PERL scripts which interface with a database.
  • Students will write PERL code which uses packages and reference variables and classes.
  • Students will create a PERL project using what they have learned in this course.
