Course Overview:

This class will give the students a thorough introduction to the basics of programming with Visual Basic. At the end of this class, students will be able to create Visual Basic programs that define variables and arrays and that use if statements and select case statements, for loops and while loops. Students will be able to define subroutines and functions. Students will be able to interact with objects on Visual Basic forms. This is class is good for students that have no experience with programming. Students will need a copy of Visual Studio. A 30-day trial version is available.

ATTENTION: This course has a strict start and end date.  When a student enrolls into this course, they will need to work with one of our Training Assessment Managers (TAMs) to choose a start date before they can be enrolled in their course.

Course Outline:

  • Students will be able to use Visual Basic.NET to build and run a basic application.
  • Students will be able to create a Visual Basic .NET Windows form application that uses a button, label and textBox objects.
  • Students will be able to write a Visual Basic .NET application that uses variables that contain numeric and string data.
  • Students will write Visual Basic code that includes if statements and loops.
  • Students will write Visual Basic code for procedures and event handlers.
  • Students will write Visual Basic cod to handle exceptions and validate data.
  • Students will write Visual Basic code to work with Arrays, Collections, Dates and Strings.
  • Students will work with additional form controls and MDI forms.
  • Students will create and use classes in their Visual Basic projects.
  • Students will create a final project showing what they learned in the course.
