Course Overview:

This class is a continuation of the Introduction to Visual Basic class. At the end of this class students will be able to create classes and objects and use them to create new classes and objects using inheritance and polymorphism. Students will be able to create graphics, read and write data to files and work with databases. Students will be introduced to using Visual Basic for building web-based applications. Students will need a copy of Visual Studio Express.

ATTENTION: This course has a strict start and end date.  When a student enrolls into this course, they will need to work with one of our Training Assessment Managers (TAMs) to choose a start date before they can be enrolled in their course.

This course requires the Microsoft Visual Studio Express software in order for the student to follow along with the course lessons.  Free copies of the software are available from Microsoft by going here.

Course Outline:

  • Students will be able to describe databases organization for multi-user relational databases.
  • Students will work with data objects and bound controls in their Visual Basic applications.
  • Students will be able to create Visual Basic .NET applications that can add, edit or delete data stored in a database.
  • Students will be able to build new classes in Visual Basic using inheritance.
  • Students will create interfaces and organize their classes into libraries.
  • Students will be able to create Visual Basic .NET applications to write to and read from files.
  • Students will create Visual Basic .NET applications to read and write XML documents.
  • Students will create Visual Basic applications that use LINQ.
  • Students will be able to create Visual Basic .NET applications that use dialog boxes, menus, tool bars, status bars and help.
  • Students will create a final project using what they learned in this course.
