Course Overview:

This course will introduce students who are familiar with Word, Excel or Access the basics of writing and debugging VBA code. VBA is Microsoft's Visual Basic for Application and is the tool used to create custom macros and user-interfaces in the Office applications. Students will learn to define variables, create loops and branching statements, define functions, get user input and interface with the application of their choice. Students will need a copy of Microsoft Word, Excel or Access. A 30-day trial is available.

ATTENTION: This course has a strict start and end date.  When a student enrolls into this course, they will need to work with one of our Training Assessment Managers (TAMs) to choose a start date before they can be enrolled in their course.

Course Outline:

  • Students will record macros and use the VBA editor to view and edit them.
  • Students will use the VBA to create macros.
  • Students will write VBA code which uses arrays.
  • Students will write VBA code to work with objects, methods and properties.
  • Students will write VBA code to define and use functions.
  • Student will write VBA code which uses use decision and loops statements.
  • Students will write VBA code which uses message boxes and input boxes.
  • Students will design and use dialog boxes in their VBA applications.
  • Students will write code to handle errors and use the debugging tools to find errors in their code.
  • Students will create a final project to show what they have learned in this course.

  • Cable, Fiber, DSL, or LEO Satellite (i.e. Starlink) internet with speeds of at least 10mb/sec download and 5mb/sec upload are recommended for the best experience.

NOTE: While cellular hotspots may allow access to our courses, users may experience connectivity issues by trying to access our learning management system.  This is due to the potential high download and upload latency of cellular connections.   Therefore, it is not recommended that students use a cellular hotspot as their primary way of accessing their courses.
