Course Overview:

The BASH Shell is one of the most popular shells on the Linux operating system. Although the GUI provides an easy way to access most information, a good familiarity with using the shell command prompt will make some tasks on Linux easier and faster. This course will introduce the Linux user to the commands that are available in the BASH shell. Student will learn to do file maintenance, system administration and to create shell scripts. Students will need access to a computer running Linux.

Course Outline:

  • Students will execute basic BASH shell commands at the command line.
  • Students will use shell commands to navigate the file system and maintain directories.
  • Students will maintain processes, review the command history, and customize the BASH environment.
  • Students will explore the process of booting a Linux system.
  • Students will create basic bash shell scripts.
  • Students will use Linux commands for administering their systems.
  • Students will create a final project to show what they have learned in this course.
