Course Overview:

Students will learn the basics of project management using Microsoft Project. During this course students will build a project plan that includes tasks and resources. Students will learn to manage the project as tasks are completed and to see whether or not the project is on schedule and on cost. Students will use various reporting tools to print and view the project status. Students will be able to track the progress of a project and troubleshoot problems with schedules and resource usage. Students will be able to customize the Project environment and to publish the project information using various reports, charts and web page options. Students will be able to pool resources within a project and to link multiple projects together. Students will need a copy of Project. A 30-day trial version is available.

ATTENTION: This course has a strict start and end date.  When a student enrolls into this course, they will need to work with one of our Training Assessment Managers (TAMs) to choose a start date before they can be enrolled in their course.

Course Outline:

  • Students will learn to work in the Project environment and create a new project.
  • Students will define tasks and resources for their project.
  • Students will print their projects and track the progress of their tasks.
  • Students will fine-tune their task, resource and assignment details as well as their overall project plan.
  • Students will sort, group and filter the views of their project.
  • Students will print their project details, create a web page for their project plan and export their data to other applications.
  • Students will track progress on tasks, assignments and overall project status.
  • Students will format the view of their data and customize their project options.
  • Students will create and manage resource pools.
  • Students will apply what they have learned in this course to a final project.

  • Cable, Fiber, DSL, or LEO Satellite (i.e. Starlink) internet with speeds of at least 10mb/sec download and 5mb/sec upload are recommended for the best experience.

NOTE: While cellular hotspots may allow access to our courses, users may experience connectivity issues by trying to access our learning management system.  This is due to the potential high download and upload latency of cellular connections.   Therefore, it is not recommended that students use a cellular hotspot as their primary way of accessing their courses.
