Course Overview:

This class will give students a working knowledge of databases, what they are and how to use them. Students will learn to view data in a database and change the view by sorting and filtering the data. Students will create a database and learn to define forms for inputs and reports for summarizing the data. Students will learn to create queries to view a subset of data in the database. Students will create charts to display data and a switchboard to manage their database application. Students will create relational databases and learn to create forms, queries and reports that use relational databases. Students will learn to build macros in Access and to use the macros to expand the capabilities of the switchboard. Students will be introduced to the basics of creating VBA applications in Access. Students will need a copy of Office. A 60-day trial version is available.

ATTENTION: This course has a strict start and end date.  When a student enrolls into this course, they will need to work with one of our Training Assessment Managers (TAMs) to choose a start date before they can be enrolled in their course.

Course Outline:

  • Students will explore the Microsoft Access environment.
  • Students will create a database in Access.
  • Students will add records to a database by importing from various sources.
  • Students will export data from their Access databases to other formats.
  • Students will create forms for working with their Access data.
  • Students will use filters and queries to find the information they want in their Access databases.
  • Students will set options on their database to keep information accurate.
  • Students will create reports for their Access databases.
  • Students will create a switchboard and custom groups for their Access database.
  • Students will create a final project using what they learned in the class.
