Course Overview:

The web is no longer just static web pages that will be viewed with a browser, but is now all about interactivity and being viewed and used on whatever device is handy, whether it is a standard PC and browser, a portable device like a smartphone or tablet or from a TV screen or gaming system. In this course we will learn to build sites that work well on multiple devices, take advantage of device with features like Geolocation and Orientation. We will look at how to add video and sound content that will work on multiple platforms, and look at how to work with SVG and HTML forms.

ATTENTION: This course has a strict start and end date.  When a student enrolls into this course, they will need to work with one of our Training Assessment Managers (TAMs) to choose a start date before they can be enrolled in their course.

Curriculum Developer Biography:

Jenny Watt, MSEd in Instructional Design for Online Learning, is a certified online instructor and has been developing and teaching online courses for 13 years. Her training background includes nearly 30 years of corporate training for major companies in the Houston area. She has over 15 years’ experience in teaching at the college level and 10 years teaching at the primary and secondary levels. She has owned her own business for more than 15 years. She has experience in programming, web design, graphic design, teaching skills and business skills.

Lesson 1: Getting Started

In this lesson we will look devices that are used to view web sites, best practices for working with HTML5 and how CSS can be customized for devices. 

Lesson 2: Structure and Semantics

In this lesson we will look at the importance of Semantic Markup for the Modern web.

Lesson 3: New Approaches to CSS

In this lesson we will look at creating device responsive CSS and how we can use CSS to create flexible layouts.

Lesson 4: Modern JavaScript

In this lesson we look at how to use JavaScript in the modern web. We will look at some of the libraries that can make JavaScript development easier.

Lesson 5: Device APIs

In this lesson we look at some of the APIs that we can use with different devices to make our web sites interact with different devices.

Lesson 6: Images and Graphics

In this lesson we will look at creating SVG graphics

Lesson 7: New Forms

In this lesson we take a look at new forms features and attributes in HTML that we can use to make our forms more user-friendly.

Lesson 8: Multimedia

In this lesson we will look at adding media to our web pages and how to ensure the media will work well on the various platforms.

Lesson 9: Web Apps

In this lesson we will look at various ways to create web apps and the future of web design.

Lesson 10: Putting it All Together

In this lesson we will look back at all we have learned and create a final project putting it all together.
