Course Overview:

Adobe Illustrator allows you to create artwork that you can use for web pages or any print or electronic media. This course will give students a good overview of the tools and features of Illustrator. Students will create artwork using the various tools including the pencil and pen tools. Students will learn the various ways to apply color to their artwork. Students will work with layers, the 3D effects, and symbols. Students will need to have a copy of Illustrator. A 30-day trial is available for download.

This class will introduce the new user to the basics of working with Photoshop for retouching images and drawing. Students will be able to use various techniques for selecting in order to edit and retouch images. Students will be able to prepare images for including in a web site or for including in printed documents. Students will be able to edit images using the painting tools, clone stamp and drawing tools. Students will be able to create new images using the pen tool and the drawing and painting tools. Students will be able to create and edit images using layers. Students will need a copy of Photoshop. A 30-day trial version is available.

During this course you will learn more about how Photoshop can be used to retouch and restore digital images. You will learn how to correct, change and improve the color of an image, get rid of stains and scratches on scanned images, combine images, add special effects and filters to images and to create images using Photoshop artistic tools.

Students will create vector graphics using Flash's drawing tools. Students will create basic animations using motion and shape tweening. Students will create interactive Flash projects using ActionScript. Students will create a web-based application that reads from files and links to other pages. Students will create accessible content using Flash. Students will import sound and video into their Flash animations. Students will need a copy of Flash. A 30-day trial is available.

Adobe InDesign allows you to design and produce stunning documents on your desktop printer or using a professional printer. Or convert your documents to PDF format or publish them on a website. This class will walk you through setting up the InDesign workspace, adding text and graphics to your document, creating layouts with frames and applying formatting with styles. Students will need a copy of InDesign. A trial version is available.

ATTENTION: This course has a strict start and end date.  When a student enrolls into this course, they will need to work with one of our Training Assessment Managers (TAMs) to choose a start date before they can be enrolled in their course.

Course Outline:

Adobe Illustrator CC
  • Students will identify the features of the Illustrator screen.
  • Students will create and edit basic shapes.
  • Students will use the pen tools to create drawings.
  • Students will add color to their Illustrator documents.
  • Students will work with text objects in Illustrator.
  • Students will edit drawings using masks, blending modes, envelopes and meshes.
  • Students will define and use symbols and edit their drawings using filters and effects.
  • Students will use the Illustrator filters, effects and graphic styles in their Illustrator projects.
  • Students will work with symbols, importing graphics from other sources and printing their Illustrator artwork.
  • Students will create a project in Illustrator to demonstrate what they have learned in this course.
Photoshop CC Introduction
  • Students will get to know the Photoshop interface and do some basic photo corrections.
  • Students will use the selection tools to select parts of an image.
  • Students will work with Photoshop's correction tools to correct and enhance photographs.
  • Students will create masks for hiding parts of a layer.
  • Students will use the vector drawing tools to create paths.
  • Students will use layer features to create images.
  • Students will paint with the mixer brush.
  • Students will create and edit 3D objects
  • Students will prepare their images for print and for the web.
  • Students will combine the techniques learned in this class to create a final project.
Photoshop Intermediate
  • Students will plan and organize their retouching procedures.
  • Students will adjust the brightness and contrast of their images and manage and adjust color.
  • Students will use layers to correct and manage their photo projects.
  • Students will use selections and masks to make changes to part of an image.
  • Students will use the Retouching tools to make changes to images.
  • Students will identify how to create good scans and approaches for repairing problems.
  • Students will convert images to black and white and colorize black and white images.
  • Students will retouch portraits.
  • Students will walk through the process of retouching photographs.
  • Students will create a final project using what they have learned.
Flash CC Introduction
  • Students will identify objects created by Flash and identify the tools in the Flash application by name.
  • Students will create graphics and symbols in Flash.
  • Students will create basic animations in Flash.
  • Students will animate using shape tweens and inverse kinematics in Flash.
  • Students will use ActionScript to create interactive Flash animations.
  • Students will add and format text in a Flash animation.
  • Student will add sound and video to their Flash animations.
  • Students will include external content in their Flash animation projects.
  • Students will publish and optimize their Flash animation projects.
  • Students will create a final project in Flash using what they have learned.
Adobe InDesign CC
  • Students will get familiar with the InDesign environment.
  • Students will add objects to their InDesign documents.
  • Student will import text into their documents, edit text and apply formatting.
  • Students will add color to objects in their documents and manage the color settings.
  • Students will define styles for text formatting in their documents.
  • Students will import and link graphic with their documents.
  • Students will add tables and table formatting to their documents.
  • Students will add transparency to objects in their documents.
  • Students will manage long documents and prepare their documents for printing.
  • Students will create a document to show what they have learned in the class.
