Course Overview:

In relating to the media, we are no longer talking about traditional media outlets like televised and printed news. Media includes the internet and all forms of electronic communication. We will look at how to get your message out and to measure success and minimize risks. We will look at how to work with tradtional and Web 2.0 media and how to plan not only external but internal communications.

Curriculum Developer Biography:

Jenny Watt, MSEd in Instructional Design for Online Learning, is a certified online instructor and has been developing and teaching online courses for 13 years. Her training background includes nearly 30 years of corporate training for major companies in the Houston area. She has over 15 years’ experience in teaching at the college level and 10 years teaching at the primary and secondary levels. She has owned her own business for more than 15 years. She has experience in programming, web design, graphic design, teaching skills and business skills.

Course Outline:

Lesson 1: The Internet

In this lesson we take a look at communicating our message via the internet. We look at how websites and blogs can be used to communicate a message and how to use tools to see what others might be saying about our organization.

Lesson 2: Measurement and Risk

In this lesson we look at how to measure the success of our electronic communidations. We will also look at the risks of communicating via the internet how minimize those risks.

Lesson 3: Media and Trade Relations

In this lesson we take a look at developing relations with traditional media outliets and media outlets related to the businesses trade. We will also look at communication within the organization.

Lesson 4: Rumor and Crisis Management

In this lesson we will look at roles rumors play in communication. We will also look at ways of controlling the messages during a crisis.
